About Reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy based on the principle that reflex areas on the feet, hands and face correspond to all glands, organs and structures of the body.
It is thought to date back to ancient Egypt, but it wasn't until 1912 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced the therapy to the west as 'Zone Therapy'. He discovered reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. American nurse and physiotherapist Eunice Ingham developed this further in the 1930s and named it 'Reflexology'.
The Benefits of Reflexology
- It may aid relaxation, balance emotions and provide an antidote to stress. This relaxed state allows energy to flow more easily and revitalise the body.
- It may improve circulation by removing tension, which restricts blood flow.
- It may help restore and maintain homeostasis, the body's natural equilibrium.
- It may stimulate the production of endorphins, the body's own natural painkiller.
- It is believed to improve the lymphatic function of detoxifying, cleansing and removing built-up waste.

Learn Reflexology for Babies and Children
Reflexology can be very beneficial for babies and children. They generally respond quickly to therapy because they don't have the same build-up of stress and strain as adults. I can visit your home to show you and your friends how to give your own young ones a gentle reflexology session.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy and not intended as a substitute for traditional medical care.
